In June 2025, Higher Athletics ran its first open challenge in collaboration with /commit. We didn’t aim to create a competition. We wanted a reason to move. A shared ritual. A lightweight nudge that could fit into anyone’s life, no matter their pace, schedule, or fitness level.
We borrowed the format from /commit: make a small promise to yourself, post updates, and finish what you started. The goal? Log 8 hours of movement in one month. That’s it. Any activity counted: running, walking, padel, soccer, cycling, yoga, gym, even softball.
41 people committed 500 $HIGHER each for the challenge.
26 casted proof of movement.
24 hit the 8-hour goal.
Together, those 24 people logged ~381+ hours of movement. Not for likes. Not for trophies. Just to stay in motion and to remind each other that a little consistency goes a long way.
The reward pool started at 35,000 $HIGHER
And here’s the twist:
Because $HIGHER increased in value during the challenge, those who stayed consistent didn’t just walk away with more tokens, they walked away with 6.4× the value of what they committed.
From 500 to 3,204 $HIGHER in return.
If you’re one of them, congratulations. You made time for your body, stayed consistent, and kept a promise to yourself. That’s no small thing.
While the rewards were shared, some stories stood out.
kazani.eth logged a staggering 75.4 hours. A reminder of what’s possible when movement becomes habit. For that, Kazani received hb2 #72 NFT.
Others like rev, apt, katwolfie.eth, and otterfodder.eth rounded out the top five, but more importantly: they showed up. So did everyone who finished. That was the point.
Low commitment, high return.
8 hours a month = ~2 hours a week. Almost everyone can make space for that.
By keeping the structure light and the reward model equal, we shifted the energy away from performance and toward participation.
Posting in /higher-athletics became a soft kind of accountability. Seeing others move made you want to move too. That was enough.
We also learned what needs fixing:
Manual tracking takes time.
Proof formats need to be standardized.
Next time, we’ll simplify.
We’re scaling the ritual. For July–August, the challenge is simple:
Move on 20 different days before August 31.
Track your movement. Share it in the group. Get rewarded.
Enter via commit
Deadline to join: August 10.
Info lives in /higher-athletics.
This challenge was inspired by the original Higher Athletics initiator, Kugusha, who believed movement should be accessible, consistent, and shared. This June was proof that it still can be.
Thank you for showing up.
For prioritizing motion over metrics.
For posting, for cheering others on, for turning this into something shared.
You made this work.
